1. El Camino Real Highway (Nearest to Frankston, TX)

This 540-mile drive begins at the Toledo Bend Reservoir and meanders all the way toward San Antonio. Many motorists who take this path choose to stop off in surrounding woodlands such as Sabine National Forest or interesting historic attractions like Caddo Mounds State Historic Site.

5. Swiss Alps of Texas

This 85-mile route earns its nickname because of its high altitudes and impressive vistas. There’s also plenty of greenery to appreciate, at least by Texas standards. You’ll be able to spot the Sabinal and Medina rivers several times along the way, plus it’s only a short detour to experience wildlife and nature at Lost Maples State Natural Area.
