The town of Frankston, TX, is located in Anderson County and approximately 100 miles southeast of the Dallas – Fort Worth metropolitan area. Frankston is surrounded by beautiful natural and urban destinations you can easily drive to. These are three of the most popular weekend getaways among the town’s residents.

1. Dallas

As the largest city in the Dallas – Fort Worth metropolis, as well as one of the most influential urban areas in the entire United States, Dallas is a fantastic destination for a weekend escape. Driving from Frankston to downtown Dallas takes a little over one hour and a half via route US-175. Once you make your way to the city, a good idea is to find a place to park somewhere around the West End Historic District and sign up for a free walking tour of the area. Some of the main tourist attractions you should visit include Dealey Plaza, Reunion Tower, the Old Red Museum, and the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden.

2. Sabine National Forest

Siting on the western shores of Toledo Reservoir and right by the Louisiana state line, Sabine National Forest is an excellent place to visit and spend a weekend camping under the stars, picnicking with friends, or going for relaxing walks on beautiful nature trails. Developed throughout the Great Depression by the Civilian Conservation Corps, this national forest was established in 1936.

A well-known destination among residents of all over eastern Texas and western Louisiana, Sabine National Forest is located approximately 130 miles southeast of Frankston. Driving here takes about two hours and 15 minutes via routes US-69 and TX-103, making it an excellent place to escape the routine without driving too far. Some of the facilities available for visitors include picnic tables, a campground, wildlife watching areas, and nature trails.

3. Sam Houston National Forest

Covering an area of approximately 163,000 acres, Sam Houston National Forest was also established in 1936 and is another well-known nature reserve that draws visitors from all over the state throughout the year. Home to an extensive variety of local species of flora and fauna, this place is an excellent destination for wildlife watching, hiking, camping, fishing, and boating. Driving here from Frankston takes less than two hours via routes US-287 and TX-19.
