1. Lake Palestine

With a surface area of more than 25,000 acres, Lake Palestine is the nearest body of water for Frankston-based anglers. This freshwater reservoir was created with the construction of the nearby Blackburn Crossing Dam across the Neches River, which was completed in the early 1960s. Besides being an important part of the region’s water supply system, Lake Palestine is a beautiful recreational area where visitors can enjoy water sports and activities, including boating, water skiing, canoeing, and kayaking.

Getting to the shores of Lake Palestine from the town of Frankston takes less than 10 minutes by car, driving north along route TX-155. The best fishing areas are located close to the small town of Dogwood City, on the eastern part of the reservoir. This body of water is home to large populations of spotted bass, white bass, blue catfish, largemouth bass, crappie, sunfish, and channel catfish.

2. Cedar Creek Reservoir

Located less than 50 miles northwest of Frankston, Cedar Creek Reservoir is home to a vast array of fish species, including black crappie, white crappie, bluegill, hybrid sunfish, white bass, and channel catfish. Built between 1961 and 1965, this artificial reservoir boasts a surface area of more than 32,000 acres and is part of the Tarrant Regional Water District’s water supply system. Besides fishing, this is a popular spot for picnicking and boating among families from the area.

The best spots for fishing in this reservoir are located along the southern shore, where the water is clearer and there are public access points and boat ramps. Managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the lake is regularly stocked with hybrid striped bass, so the fishing here will never disappoint you. Getting to the fishing areas of the reservoir from downtown Frankston takes about 40 minutes by car, driving along route US-175.

3. Richland – Chambers Reservoir

Located near the town of Corsicana, the Richland – Chambers Reservoir is one of the largest bodies of water in the entire state, boasting a surface area of more than 40,000 acres. This reservoir is home to thousands of excellent specimens of carp, smallmouth buffalo, crappie, largemouth bass, blue catfish, channel catfish, as well as hybrid striped bass. Getting here from Frankston takes less than an hour by car, driving west along Farm to Market Road 837.
